Rag Rug Making for Wellbeing
This course represents the ultimate in textiles recycling, converting old clothing into beautiful, unique, usable items such as rugs, seat covers, wall hangings and even bags.

The course is suitable for both beginners and people who had experience before in rag hooking. It is ideal for anyone looking to find a relaxing hobby that will help them unwind from the pressures of day-to-day life.

You will be shown how to use the hooks and master the technique via simple small group and 1:1 demonstration. There will be imagery available for use as inspiration, but you are more than welcome to bring any images you have from home, to aid the initial design process.

Alongside practical craft creation, each session incorporates basic wellness practices designed to restore a little balance to your daily life, including calming breathing techniques, grounding techniques, practical tips for getting enough good quality sleep, understanding the vital importance of spending time in nature and grabbing that ever illusive digital “detox” when possible!

Please see below for advice and guidance on equipment and materials.

Your tutor will provide the necessary hessian backing to work on. Please bring £4.00, in cash, to cover this cost on week 1. She will also bring a range of material and fabric that can be used to start your work.

However, it is likely that you will prefer to use certain colours to complete your design, so if possible, before the course starts, please start collecting old clothing or pieces of fabric that could be useful. Appropriate types of fabric include:

* Sweatshirts (thin fabric)
* Fleeces (thin fabric)

Hooks provided by your tutor will be available to use each week. You can also purchase a hook for £10.00, or source your own, especially if you would like to continue rag rug making in your own time.

If you are claiming a Means Tested Benefit fee reduction or enrolling via social prescription, there is financial help available to help pay for the cost of your materials: click here for more information.
