Working Artists - Introduction to Website Essentials
Most artists today have their own website to showcase, promote and sell their work. A website acts as both an online gallery and a hub for your creative practice, helping you connect with audiences, collectors, galleries and opportunities.

This focused workshop is designed for artists who want to create, commission or improve an existing website and gain a clearer understanding of the essential elements every artist's website should include.

Whether you're looking to present your work through a professional portfolio or sell directly online, this session will introduce the key principles of effective website design for artists.

We'll explore how to present your artwork clearly and professionally, create a website that reflects your artistic identity, and structure your content so visitors can easily navigate your site. You'll also gain an introduction to creating and managing a website using Squarespace.

Liz will guide you through the essential pages to include how to create a clear user journey, and the design decisions that can strengthen your online presence. We'll look at a range of website layouts and approaches to presenting artwork, alongside design considerations such as typography, colour and visual consistency.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have a clearer understanding of what makes an effective artist website, practical ideas you can apply immediately, and greater confidence to develop your own online presence.

Topics covered include:

• The essential pages for an artist's website
• Your website structure, layout and user journey
• Presenting artwork effectively online
• Design considerations: fonts, colours and visual identity
• An intro to using a ‘drag and drop’ website builder
• Planning your next steps for creating or improving your website
