Smartphone Photography
Your smartphone camera is more powerful than you think. This fun and practical 2-hour workshop is designed for anyone who already enjoys taking photos on their phone and wants to move beyond the basics to create more polished, creative and eye-catching images.

Led by professional photographer Carys, this session will explore the hidden features, creative tools and editing techniques that can completely transform your smartphone photography — whether you love photographing people, travel, nature, food, handmade products or everyday life.

Working with both iPhone and Android users, the workshop will cover:

* Understanding and making the most of your phone camera settings
* Portrait mode, exposure control, focus tricks and composition tips
* Creative ways to use light, reflections, shadows and colour
* How to take sharper, cleaner and more professional-looking images
* Editing techniques using built-in phone tools
* Tips for creating images for Instagram, websites and social media

The evening will also include a series of short creative photography exercises and mini challenges designed to help you see light, colour and composition differently.

This workshop is ideal for people who are beginners and for those who are already comfortable using their smartphone camera but want to become more creative and confident with it.

This workshop takes place in in the Garden Room on the ground floor of Explore York Library in the centre of York. (The library is located on Library Square, YO1 7DS.)

Please note that the library has no parking available. There are sometimes a couple of available parking slots for people with a blue badge directly outside the library but these are City of York Council owned, and not library owned, and cannot be relied on to be available. There are bike racks and a number of buses that stop nearby.
