Expressive & Experimental Oil Painting
In this one-day workshop, we’ll explore expressive and experimental approaches in oil painting through a series of dynamic studies and creative exercises. Using a range of source images and visual references, you will be encouraged to loosen up your technique, take risks, and discover new ways of working with oil paint.

Throughout the day, we’ll focus on the colours, texture, and the versatility of oils while experimenting with both traditional and unconventional methods. You’ll explore a range of painting mediums, adapting the consistency and surface quality of the paint. You’ll use methods such as cold wax, oil sticks and working with a palette knife to expand your mark-making. The workshop places a strong emphasis on experimentation and personal expression - helping you develop a more confident and individual visual language.

By the end of the day, you will have produced a collection of expressive and experimental oil studies to take home.
