Pattern Cutting - Bodice and Sleeve
In this exciting two day workshop, you will delve further into the pattern cutting process. You will learn how to take relevant body measurements and use these measurements, along with a drafting code and tutor support, to create a bodice and sleeve block—beginning the journey of making your own patterns. Measuring and some simple maths calculations will be required.

Learners will be encouraged to make up the block in fabric for fitting. The tutor will also demonstrate further influences to the block with dart manipulation, style lines, various necklines/facings, sleeve shapes and more!

Learners will need to use basic Maths skills whilst calculating body measurements, however the tutor will be able to assist in any way possible.

* PLEASE NOTE: You will not be making a finished bodice and sleeve in the workshop, moreover you will draft the pattern and make a toile and will be guided through individual fitting and customising.

This is not a beginner’s workshop, some basic knowledge of sewing & dressmaking is required.

The course is delivered by a tutor who is also a practitioner in the subject and is on hand to teach by a variety of methods including tutor presentation, varied demonstrations and one-to-one personalised guidance.

Please bring:

- A notebook, sharp pencil and ruler, you may also wish to bring a calculator.

- An old double duvet cover or 1.5m of calico or similar cotton fabric to make a toile once the draft/pattern is completed.

- A basic sewing kit including scissors, pins and tape measure.

Please note, refreshments are not provided as part of the day, but there is a café on site that sells refreshments and food, or you are welcome to bring your own packed lunch.

The dressmaking classrooms are on the first floor which can be accessed by lift or stairs.

The course will be fully supported by ‘Padlet’ (best described as an online noticeboard) where demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas, we encourage you to upload photos of your work.
