Strictly - Introduction to Social Jive
Discover the fun and energy of Social Jive in this friendly three‑week introductory coursedesigned especially for adult beginner pairs. You’ll learn the core steps, rhythms, and lead‑and‑follow skills that make Jive one of the most joyful and accessible social dances. Across the three weeks, you will build confidence in the basic footwork, explore simple turns and variations, and learn how to dance comfortably with a partner in a relaxed, supportiveenvironment. Each session is active and engaging, with time to practise and ask questions. This course is aimed at pairs, so learners are encouraged to enrol with a partner or friend.

You should be comfortable with gentle physical activity and able to participate in light aerobic movement. Before starting any exercise programme, it’s advisable to seek guidance from a GP or health professional if you have any concerns, such as an existing health condition or injury.
If you feel that any health issues may affect your participation, please email the organising team with the course title and tutor name. Your message will be forwarded to the tutor, who may contact you before the first session if appropriate.

What do I need to bring?
● Comfortable clothing that allows free movement
● A bottle of water
● Suitable footwear:
○ Lightweight day shoes or dance shoes
○ Avoid heavy boots, sandals, or shoes with very grippy soles
○ Heels should be no higher than 3 inches
Are there any additional costs? There are no additional costs for this course. All teaching and music are provided.
How will I be taught? Teaching will take place through:
● Demonstration and guided practice
● Step‑by‑step instruction
● Partner work with tutor support
● Repetition to build confidence and muscle memory
● Short recap sections each week

● Dance the basic Social Jive step with confidence
● Lead or follow simple turns and variations
● Maintain rhythm and timing with your partner
● Dance a short Social Jive routine suitable for social events
● Feel more confident dancing socially with others

● Introduction to Social Foxtrot (3 weeks)
● Introduction to Waltz (3 weeks)
