How Children Learn Maths
This course unravels the mysteries of how children are taught Maths at school. Learners will be introduced to the methods that teachers are using in schools today, with the aim of getting up to speed with some of the jargon! There's no pressure to answer any questions, and you will also be able to make a bank of resources to use at home.

Week 1: Place Value. You will develop vocabulary in line with National Curriculum maths for place value and learn games and activities that can be replicated at home to support learning of place value.
Week 2: Addition. You will learn how to solve addition calculations using a range of concrete and visual strategies, such as bar models, number lines and part-whole models.
Week 3: Subtraction. You will learn how to subtract mentally with increasingly larger numbers and use a range of concrete, visual and written strategies to solve calculations.
Week 4: Multiplication. You will learn how to multiply mentally using different strategies, spot multiples of numbers and multiply larger numbers using a variety of methods.
Week 5: Division. You will be able to divide mentally using different strategies, spot multiples of larger numbers and divide larger numbers using a variety of methods.
