Painting and Drawing - Summer Seascapes
Over the 5 weeks together, we will look at various artistic techniques that will help you elevate your skills in creating a wonderful seascape.

In week 1, using dry media only, we will look at form, light, shadow, line and composition by studying and translating seascape photography into your own artistic language. If you have a favourite scene, bring the image along as a hard copy, and I will also have some to share with you.

Incorporating work from the previous week, in session 2 we will dive into different techniques including how to create texture and glazing, whilst using acrylics.

During sessions 3 to 5, we will start the class with a quick, fun, loosening up art exercise.

We will then focus on choosing a scene from a small selection of provided photography, or your own, and start to plan how to create your final piece and what techniques to use.

During sessions 4 and 5, you will have started your piece with an idea of how to see it through to completion. For those less confident, we can work step by step on images supplied, and for those more confident, I will be on hand to guide you along.

Throughout all sessions you will be encouraged to embrace what you produce as a form of intrigue and play. Experimentation and fun is key.

We will also spend a little time critiquing work at the end of each session and you will receive regular feedback and support online, through our class Padlet board (an online image sharing and feedback page). There’s also a lovely café on site that serves wonderful coffee and cakes!

For the most part you will need to provide your own art materials and bring them to class. Each week I will give you an idea of what you will need for the next session. I’ll bring in some examples of items for you to look at so you can make a choice on what to buy if that helps.

Week 1: Pencils 2B, 7B, charcoal, putty rubber, heavy A3 weight paper for tonal work, line sketches.

Week 2: Acrylics, a small range of brushes (flat and round), heavy A3 weight paper, palette, water holder, apron, newspaper/cloth to cover the table. Homework is optional.

Weeks 3-5: Acrylics, a small range of brushes (flat and round), palette, canvas board/stretched canvas, water holder, apron, newspaper/cloth to cover the table.

If you are claiming a Means Tested Benefit fee reduction or enrolling via social prescription, there is financial help available to help pay for the cost of your materials: click here for more information.
