Weaving for Wellbeing
Focusing and being absorbed in the weaving process is known to help to reduce stress: it not only engages our hands but also our minds, grounding us in the current moment. Through the weaving process, dexterity, concentration and focus can be improved and a sense of wellbeing established. It calms the mind, grounds the individual and promotes a sense of creativity and self esteem.

The informal, yet structured, sessions will provide a calm and inspiring environment where participants can experience a sense of relaxation through creative expression. You will be able to work at your own pace while benefitting from the support of a creative group. Whether you are a complete beginner or have some experience in weaving, you will find the course adaptable to your individual level.

Helen will introduce the fundamentals of off-loom weaving and an overview of various tapestry techniques. You will learn how to set up a frame on which to explore different tapestry weaving methods and to experiment with design ideas. This will provide an opportunity to discover the character of various yarns and materials, and see how they handle and what effects can be achieved, some traditional, others more contemporary. Helen will provide personalised guidance, helping each student to choose a project based on their skill level and interests.

By the end of the course, you will have a good understanding of tapestry weaving techniques, including setting up a frame, finishing options and how to display work. You will also have a set of samples and your own tapestry, either completed or to take with you to finish in your own time.

**If you attended a Wellbeing Weaving course or Wellbeing Crochet course in Summer 2025/Autumn 2025 you will not be eligible to enrol on this course.
