Painting & Drawing - Term 2
This course is for learners who have completed the "Painting & Drawing - Term 1" course with us. If you did not complete this course, our enrolment team can suggest some alternative course options for you. If you cannot find another option suitable, you will placed on a temporary waiting list until course numbers are finalised.

This is a mixed-ability class covering a wide range of painting and drawing methods and topics. With plenty of tutor guidance, it is suitable both for those with limited experience and for learners who have attended previous courses.

The course is structured around two projects, each designed to explore various techniques, materials and approaches. We cover the fundamentals of line, tone, mark-making and colour, while also encouraging experimentation with different materials and styles.

The focus is on building practical skills through tutor-led demonstrations, hands-on tasks, and group discussions. You’ll also study the work of a range of artists, learning about their techniques and approaches.

As the course progresses, there’s space for individual exploration and development as your confidence grows. You’ll gain a solid foundation in drawing and painting using both water-based and dry media, giving you the skills to continue on to other classes or simply enjoy your creative practice at home.

Materials used include pen, pencil, charcoal, pastel, acrylic paint and watercolour.

You will need to provide your own materials for the course and your tutor will go through all materials in detail in the first few lessons.

For lesson one, please bring an A4 sketchbook (white cartridge paper) and pencils.

At a glance, during the course we will be using acrylic paint, watercolour, graphite, charcoal and pastel.

Your tutor will give you full guidance on what materials you will need for each session.

The venue has a small café area where the tutor can serve tea and coffee for £1.50 a mug.

If you are claiming a Means Tested Benefit fee reduction or enrolling via social prescription, there is financial help available to help pay for the cost of your materials: click here for more information.
