Initial Assessment for Maths Courses
Do you need Maths qualifications for your job or future training? Would you like to be more confident with numbers? Do you just want to prove to yourself that you can do it?

Whatever your reason, if you’re an adult and you want to update your skills in maths, then you’re in the right place. Our learners also tell us they gain confidence, skills for the workplace and new ideas as well as achieving nationally recognised qualifications.

An initial assessment is your first step towards joining a Maths course with York Learning. You will have either a face to face or online meeting (via Zoom) with a specialist tutor, which will take 30-45 minutes. During the meeting, the tutor will chat to you about how you use maths skills in your daily life and why you want to improve them, your needs and any anxieties you may have. They will also discuss your class options and find the right route for you.

York Learning runs a variety of sessions that will fit around your day-to-day life. We have daytime and evening sessions in York, both face to face and online via Zoom. Our flexible timetable means that you can choose the pace and way of working which suits you best.
• Start a Functional Skills course at any time (GCSE courses start in the Autumn term)
• Learn in class and at home, supporting your learning with specialist online platforms
• Take Functional Skills exams at venues in York whenever you're ready (GCSE exams take place in York city centre in May and June)
