Soft Furnishings - Make Simple Curtains
Can’t find readymade curtains to fit your windows, or just don’t like what’s on offer? The main goal of this course is to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to start making curtains for your own home.

What will I learn:
- How to measure windows.
- How to estimate fabric quantities and choose suitable materials for the task in hand.
- Pattern matching.
- Finishing techniques - hand sewn & sewing machine.
- Explore different types of curtain finishes – different headings, lined, interlined and blackout.

This is skills and techniques-based workshop, taught in a friendly and supportive environment, which will greatly inform your future makes!

We’ll start the two-day workshop by producing a set of samples. This stage is essential as it will inform your thinking and understanding for both this project and any future makes.

If you have fabric at home suitable for sample making, please bring with you. Alternatively, please bring 1m of light upholstery fabric.

Please arrive with a photo of the window you plan to dress and make a note of its basic measurements (width and height, from edge to edge). We will discuss and learn how to measure accurately on the first day.

If you already have a track or pole installed, please measure that as well. If your pole has rings, it would be helpful if you could bring one of those along too.

The second day of the workshop will be spent working on your own pair of finished curtains. Please do not buy the fabric you need until you have either liaised with the tutor or attended the first day of the workshop.
