Level Two Information, Advice and Guidance Online Learning
This is a nationally recognised Level 2 qualification for those in helping roles, advising and supporting adults in the community.
It will also help you to gain in-depth knowledge of the boundaries and responsibilities when offering IAG including signposting, referrals and record keeping.
Unit 1: Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) in practice
Unit 2: Developing interaction skills.
You will learn effective communication techniques to use with a range of clients, including listening skills and non-verbal communication.
Unit 3: Signposting and referrals
You will gain an understanding of the difference between signposting and referrals – when it is appropriate to refer or signpost.
The importance of confidentiality and impartiality will be highlighted.
Unit 4: Information, Advice or Guidance in context
Exploring different areas and roles in which IAG is being delivered.
Knowledge on discriminatory practices and behaviours affecting specific client groups, as well as potential barriers and how to overcome them.
Unit 5: Skills for advice suppliers
This unit provides learners with an understanding of the purpose and process of an advice interview, examining the relationship between client and advisor, the advisor’s role, stages of the advice interview and how to ensure client confidentiality. A key part of this section is gaining knowledge of social policy in advice work, negotiating effectively on a client’s behalf.

This is online learning, with three compulsory live one-hour video sessions, one to onboard and two in-learning. Prior to enrolment, a member of our teaching staff will contact you to discuss the course and expectations in greater detail. If your application is successful then you will be sent login details to the portal, via email. Following each learning module you will complete an assessment and submit this for marking via the portal.

It would be hugely advantageous to you to have access to a laptop/PC – doing it via a tablet/phone will be extremely challenging. You will need internet access. We estimate that the average learner will need to spend 3-4 hours a week for the 12 weeks in order to successfully complete this course.

This is a substantial course of 35-40 learning hours over 12 weeks. It involves a significant amount of coursework, including assignment submission, and it is possible that your tutor will give you feedback which will require you to improve some of your coursework and resubmit. You will be required to give detailed responses and examples to set questions . Please ensure that you have considered how you will structure your study time and assignments over the course duration before you apply. The qualification will give you a solid base of skills and knowledge that are transferable across a range of roles in a number of industries.
