Make Your Own Knickers: Eco Sewing
Discover the joy of creating perfectly fitting underwear in our one-day knicker making course! Using comfortable and forgiving jersey fabric, you'll master the essential techniques for working with stretch materials, applying lingerie elastic, and sewing a professional enclosed gusset.

Beyond crafting a beautiful pair of knickers, this unique workshop also offers expert guidance on adapting your pattern to create stylish ‘period knickers’, if desired, giving you the skills to combine comfort and practicality. You'll leave with a custom-made pair of knickers and the confidence to sew many more!

Ideal for the eco conscious sewer, off cuts of jersey from previous projects (your own or other peoples), can be used as this avoids unnecessary fabric waste. Please see below:- What do I need to bring and are there any additional costs.

The pattern will be provided – with a choice of waistlines and leg openings. Approx 3 weeks before the course, we will contact you to ask which size and style you would like to make on the day and a pattern will be prepared for you to use in the workshop.

We will require your dress size 3 weeks before the workshop runs and fabric quantity requirements will be given at this stage. Please bring along stretch fabric (light to medium weight stretch knit fabric with a 4-way stretch and good recovery, such as jersey, scuba, stretch mesh, stretch velvet). We encourage learners to bring off cuts of stretch fabric, where possible, to avoid unnecessary fabric waste. However, please ensure that the fabric you bring on the day is large enough to make a pair of knickers in your chosen size. There will be good quality stretch fabric available on the day to use, in exchange for a donation to charity (Toppers Head wear project).

Elastic and fabric for the crotch lining will be provided by the tutor at the additional cost of £4.00 per student. This amount is paid to the tutor on the day. Please bring the correct amount to avoid cash handling.

Please note, refreshments are not provided as part of the course. There is a café on site that sells a selection of drinks and refreshments, but we recommend that you bring your own packed lunch.

The dressmaking classrooms are on the first floor which can be accessed by lift or stairs.

The course will be fully supported by ‘Padlet’ (best described as an online noticeboard) where demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas, we encourage you to upload photos of your finished garment.

As an added feature, we hold a charity Dressmaking Showcase, at the end of the summer term, to celebrate the wonderful work that has been produced during the year, to which all learners are invited.
