Clone Your Clothes
Do you have a beloved item of clothing that fits you perfectly, but is wearing out or you wish you had in multiple colours and fabrics?

Our two-day "Clone Your Clothes" course is your opportunity to replicate your favourite garments with precision. You'll learn the invaluable techniques of carefully deconstructing a garment visually, taking accurate measurements, and drafting a reusable pattern without damaging your original piece.

By the end of this hands-on workshop, you'll have a custom-made pattern, a toile (test garment) to ensure the perfect fit, and the confidence to recreate your cherished wardrobe staples again and again, unlocking endless possibilities for your personal style.

The informal session allows learners to be inspired by other class members and there will be demonstrations on a variety of techniques by the tutor.

Please bring along a garment you wish to replicate, we suggest unlined until you gain confidence in this process.

A notebook, sharp pencil (ideally a propelling pencil), rubber and ruler and basic sewing kit (including fabric and paper scissors, thread, pins, tape measure).

Please also bring an old double duvet cover or calico or similar cotton fabric to make a toile once the pattern is completed.

NB if you are replicating a garment in stretch fabric, it is essential you bring suitable stretch fabric to make a toile (e.g. if the original garment is made from a 4 way stretch jersey, you need to ensure you bring 4 way stretch fabric to make a toile).

Dot and cross pattern paper can be bought on the day for an additional cost of 60p per metre (cash only).

Sewing machines, overlockers, a cover stitch machine, a steam generated iron and lots of sewing equipment is available at the venue for learners to use. You are also welcome to bring along your own sewing machine, as long as it is in good working order, but please ensure you use one of our PAT extension cables (provided by the venue).

Please note, refreshments are not provided as part of the course. There is a café on site that sells a selection of drinks and refreshments, but we recommend that you bring your own lunch.

The dressmaking classrooms are on the first floor which can be accessed by lift or stairs.

The course will be fully supported by ‘Padlet’ (best described as an online noticeboard) where demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas, we encourage you to upload photos of your finished garment.

As an added feature, we hold a charity Dressmaking Showcase, at the end of the summer term, to celebrate the wonderful work that has been produced during the year, to which all learners are invited.
