Design and Make Your Own Christmas Sweatshirt
Get into the Festive spirit with our fun Christmas sweatshirt course.

A great introduction to sewing with stretch fabrics on an overlocker or a regular sewing machine, we will share tips and tricks for sewing with stretch. We’ll guide you through each step from cutting out your pattern pieces, finishing seams and hems along with sewing cuffs with ribbing, neckline bands, facings and adding a festive design. Ensuring you create a comfortable and stylish Christmas sweatshirt that you’ll love to wear throughout the holiday season.

The pattern will be provided as a small, medium or large (there will be sample size garments available for you to try on prior to selecting your size). In the first week you will have the option to customise your pattern by choosing the neckline shape, lengthening or shortening the body or creating drama by adding a balloon sleeve and cuff!

You will be required to bring fabric and haberdashery to make the Christmas Sweatshirt, we will contact you approximately 3 weeks before the course to discuss what fabrics and trims you should bring along.

Please also bring along a notebook, pen/pencil and basic sewing kit (scissors, thread, pins, tape measure).

Sewing machines, overlockers, a cover stitch machine, a steam generated iron and lots of sewing equipment is available at the venue for learners to use. You are also welcome to bring along your own sewing machine, as long as it is in good working order, but please ensure you use one of our PAT extension cables (provided by the venue).

Please note, refreshments are not provided as part of the course. There is a café on site that sells a selection of drinks and refreshments, but we recommend that you bring your own packed lunch.

The dressmaking classrooms are on the first floor which can be accessed by lift or stairs.

The course will be fully supported by ‘Padlet’ (best described as an online noticeboard) where demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas, we encourage you to upload photos of your finished garment.

As an added feature, we hold a charity Dressmaking Showcase, at the end of the summer term, to celebrate the wonderful work that has been produced during the year, to which all learners are invited.
