Night and Low Light Photography
Have you ever seen a photograph of a busy city where lights from the cars on the roads appear to be in one long stream and wondered how they captured such movement? Or maybe you’ve wondered how to capture a beautiful night time city scene clearly and lit well?

During this evening workshop you will learn exactly how it’s done and be able to capture a few shots like that for yourselves! We will discuss a few theoretical points for photographing in low light scenarios and capturing interesting night-time scenes, with support every step of the way.

Once the introductions and theory are done, we will spend most of the workshop practising with our cameras. Everyone in the group will receive support from their tutor, Carys - who is a local photographer with a passion for teaching others in a kind and easygoing manner, in a group where everyone is welcome.

You will also be encouraged to go "off-piste" and use your creativity to capture what interests you in the support of a friendly group with the chance to ask any burning questions you may have.

This course is suitable for all people who have an interest in learning how to photograph in low-light conditions, what to look out for and to learn which settings are responsible for this type of photography.

This is suitable for beginners and intermediate photographers who would like to be part of a trial and erroring approach to low lighting in a friendly group.

This class will be split between indoor and outdoor learning to put our new skills into practice!

You will need to provide your own camera, batteries, memory cards, a tripod if you have one (if not some will be provided to share). Perhaps also a paper and pen for notes.

Please wrap up warm as this workshop involves walking around the city centre at night.

This course takes place in York and involves walking around York city centre to take photographs.

We will meet in the Garden Room on the ground floor of Explore York Library in the centre of York. (The library is located on Library Square, YO1 7DS.)

Please ensure that you arrive in good time so that we can make a prompt start at 18:30.

Please note that the library has no parking available. There are sometimes a couple of available parking slots for people with a blue badge directly outside the library but these are City of York Council owned, and not library owned, and cannot be relied on to be available. There are bike racks and a number of buses that stop nearby.

Although we will spend the first half hour or so in the classroom, we will then be moving out into the city centre, and the library closes before our session ends, so it is important that you don't leave anything in the classroom, and that you take all your belongings with you.
