Understanding and Basic Use of AI
This course will guide you through the basics of using artificial intelligence (AI) tools for work and everyday life.

You will experiment with various AI tools and try out a variety of tasks. You will learn how AI can help you with productivity, organization and creativity. Additionally you will become familiar with some of the ethical issues and debates surrounding artificial intelligence.

You will gain practical experience through individual exercises and group discussions, covering the following topics:

Week 1: Introducing AI tools and effective prompting techniques
Week 2: Using AI for communication tasks (e.g. writing emails, drafting messages)
Week 3: Exploring ways AI can assist in daily life and work-related tasks
Week 4: Using AI for creativity (e.g. generating images, social media posts and ideas)

You need to be able to use a computer to take this course.
This course is suitable for beginners with no prior experience in AI, as well as those who have dabbled a little, and want to enhance their skills in a supportive environment.

We will have computers available for you to use. If you have a mobile phone you might find it helpful to bring that too, but it is not essential.

The course will use free artificial intelligence tools, however registration will be required for some tools and an email address will be provided to you for this.

If you wish to continue learning about artificial intelligence, there is a follow-on course called Creative Use of AI beginning in November 2025.

When you arrive at the school, please come to the school's purple block entrance and York Learning staff will be there to show you to your classroom.
