Introduction to Print Making
An introduction to Linocut design and printmaking.

This course explores mark making and the use of carving tools to create form and tone. After creating prints of marks made, a design can then be created to develop into a Linocut.

The course will follow the full process, paying attention to positive and negative space, creation of texture and form, how to reverse and transfer the image onto the lino and then methods of printing onto different printing papers.

There will be an additional cost of £3.00 per term per learner for the lino. This should be given in cash to your tutor at the first class.

Week 1:
Use of tools and mark making.
Week 2:
Create 3 designs to size of lino and transfer one, using copy down paper, onto the lino block.
Week 3:
Process of test printing and printing final design onto different papers.
Week 4:
Repeat process using 2nd design.
Week 5:
Explore how to use inks to vary your design outcome.
Week 6:
Using what we know to develop our own designs and small print edition.
