Makaton - Taster
This Makaton Taster session is a 90-minute introduction to the Makaton communication language programme.

Makaton is a language programme that uses a combination of speech, signs and symbols to help people communicate, particularly those with communication difficulties. It is a "keyword signing" system where signs are used alongside speech and in the same order as spoken English, offering visual cues and alternative communication options.

This is a practical session where we will cover the importance of communication and why we need an inclusion community for all. You will be introduced to over 30 Makaton signs and symbols, practice signing and build to simple sentences for you to use on a day-to-day basis.

The Makaton Taster session is for beginners and no previous experience is required.

If you enjoy the taster session and wish to take your learning further, we have a 4-week course starting in November (see course code: CT1/QM8).

There is no need to bring anything and handouts will be provided.

There are no additional costs for the Makaton Taster session. If you would like to continue your Makaton journey, there are Makaton Levels 1 to 4 courses which would be at an additional cost. The tutor can discuss this further with you and provide guidance on continuation courses.
