Painting & Drawing - Improvers & Working Artists - Term 1
This course is for learners who already have some experience in painting and drawing and are looking to further develop their practice with the support of a friendly group and the guidance of a professional artist-tutor.

Each term, you will work on two projects: one set by your tutor and one that is more self-directed. You’ll explore a variety of 2D media such as watercolour, pastel, acrylic paint and mixed media.

Your tutor will support you in areas including developing a painting from initial concept to finished piece, building strong compositions, and becoming more confident with your materials.

Over the term, you'll create a wide range of work — from quick, experimental studies to more considered, developed paintings.

The course also offers opportunities for professional development for those interested in exhibiting or selling their work.

At the end of this course, there is the option to continue on to Term 2.

This course is suitable for learners who have experience and understanding of drawing and painting but want to develop their skills further. You may have attended classes before, but now want to develop your own work. You will be encouraged to develop your own individual ideas as well as try new approaches. You will also be encouraged and supported in exhibiting and taking your first steps into professional practice.

You will need to provide your own art materials and bring them to each class. What you bring will depend on what you are working on and you’ll be given lots of advice about art materials throughout the course and guided on what to buy.

To help develop a professional approach, you will be encouraged to keep a sketchbook/notebook. Suggested art materials include paper/sketchbooks, drawing materials (charcoal, pastels, pen etc.) and paints such as acrylic, watercolour or oils.

PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to paint in traditional oil paint during the course, you must use a low-odour solvent.

The venue has a small café area where the tutor can serve tea and coffee for £1.50 a mug.
