Oil Painting - Develop your Skills
This workshop is designed to help you take your oil painting to the next level. We will build on the fundamentals and explore more advanced techniques and ideas.

You will be encouraged to try a range of approaches, with an emphasis on growing your confidence and ambition as a painter. We’ll work from a variety of source images across different styles and genres.

Throughout the day, you’ll develop your skills in colour mixing, mark-making and paint handling. We’ll look closely at adapting the consistency of oil paint — working wet-on-wet, with impasto and glazes, as well as experimenting using mediums such as cold wax.

Mark-making will be a key focus, helping you to develop a more intentional and expressive approach in your work. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a collection of experimental studies and fresh ideas to carry forward into your practice.

Please bring £5.00 to cover the cost of workshop-specific materials: this includes solvent, paints, paper and other mediums that you’ll use. It would be very helpful if you can bring the exact amount. Thank you.

If you already have your own oil paints and equipment please bring them along too.

The tutor will have a selection of palette knives and brushes that you can borrow if you don’t have your own.

Please being with you:

- An apron/painting clothes
- 2 x glass jam jars for your solvent
- An old rag for cleaning your brushes.
- A table-top easel and painting board if you would like to.
- Your artworks will still be wet when you take them home, so please bring something to carry your work home in.

If you have any queries about materials before the workshop please email your tutor directly at studio@lizfosterart.co.uk

We will have an extended break at midday for lunch. Please bring your own packed lunch/snacks and cold drinks. The venue has a small café area where the tutor can serve tea and coffee for £1.50 a mug.
