An Introduction to Drone Flying
You will spend the first part of the morning learning about the theory behind drone flying and also get to grips with the Drone Code, the legal requirements and health and safety behind sensible drone flight and ownership. You will also study for and pass your Drone Pilot’s Licence. This will be offered to you free of charge as part of the course. After a quick break for lunch you will meet up with your tutor team again and have the opportunity to get hands on and practical with our drones as you fly them over the fields at Clifton Ings which is walkable from Clifton Library. There is also paid parking close by should you choose to travel by car between the library and Clifton Ings but this is first come first serve and is not under the control of York Learning. When you are flying the drones you will also get the chance to experiment with the camera facility on the drones and will be sent a picture you can take from the air after the course via email.

You do not need any previous experience of flying a drone. This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 who would like to fly a drone for the first time, or has had some experience perhaps playing with a ‘toy’ drone and would now like to try something a little more high spec. We use DJI Mini 3 drones. . You do not need advanced computer skills for this but since some of the learning is online in the morning the ability to use the internet is important.

Yourselves, a coat in case of cold weather, some footwear that can withstand the mud should there be any, lunch/drink if you choose although there is a small café at Clifton Explore Library.

In the event of high winds and/or rain, the class may have to be postponed and moved as the Drone Code states that flying drones in high wind/rain is not safe. We would have to make a decision on the day of the course and would contact you as quickly as possible on that day. This course may inspire you to look at working pathways involving drone flight – these can include careers in construction, in sports and outdoor activities and many more.
