Pattern Cutting & Detailed Garment Construction
This course will focus upon how to make and amend patterns for dressmaking, including how to create garments “from scratch”.

Through weekly demonstrations, we will explore a variety of techniques, including how to take accurate body measurements and how to fit & alter your own patterns/commercial patterns to suit your own individual requirements.

We will study lots of specific pattern cutting and dressmaking techniques to further enhance personal projects such as zips, collars, cuffs, pockets and waistbands.

Learners will have the opportunity to build a portfolio/sketch book of invaluable information and techniques to assist with their learning, as appropriate.

Everyone is invited to work on a project of their own choosing in class, with ongoing help & advice from the tutor. However, your tutor can suggest a suitable project to work on, if preferred.

As an added feature, we hold a charity Dressmaking Showcase, at the end of the summer term, to celebrate the wonderful work that has been produced during the year, to which all learners are invited.

Please also bring along a notebook, pen/pencil and basic sewing kit (including scissors/tape measure/pins etc.).

Learners will be expected to buy their own fabric for making toiles and final garments.

The course will be fully supported by ‘Padlet’ (best described as an online noticeboard) where weekly demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas between sessions and keep a record of your progress.
