Advanced International Drumming - West African/Cuban/Brazilian Summer
A course designed to use existing drumming skills and confidence gained in the beginners’ class, to enable learners to delve deeper into specific world rhythms, with a view to performing.

Jon specializes in West African rhythms, having trained in Ghana, but also Cuban and Brazilian music. Cultural and traditional rhythms and techniques from these parts of the world will be used to produce exciting and stirring music. Jon will also take time to teach the history and cultural significance of the rhythms, giving context to the music.

Learners with have the opportunity to learn more advanced playing techniques on a wider range of instruments, developing skills such as soloing, improvising and composing original pieces based on existing rhythms, leading sections and call and response and some stick work.

Learners will be encouraged to return to this course to help further their performance and playing skills, with a view to sustaining an ongoing core group of players.

It should be noted that if a performance opportunity for the group arises, the focus of the term will be on the music production for that particular event.
