Getting to know your camera and its settings
This workshop introduces beginners to understanding camera settings and how they work.

Perhaps you have a digital camera at home and would love to know how to use it beyond the automatic settings.

In this one-day workshop we will cover simple tips and tricks for getting your head around exposure and the relevant settings. We will look at shutter speed, aperture and ISO. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions and learn what information to prioritise and the tutor will be sure to make this easy to understand, breaking down all the complicated photographic jargon.

You will leave with a solid understanding of the basics and confidence to go home and try out your newly-understood camera settings.

Please bring your digital camera, memory card, charged batteries (maybe also your charger if you don't have a spare battery, just in-case); feel free to bring in the camera manual too - if it came with one. Other than that, just a paper, pen and your ideas and questions!

Please bring a packed lunch and drinks with you. There is also a café on site (open from 9.00am to 4.00pm) where you can buy hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes.

This course takes place in the Brierley Room at the central library in York. It is a ground floor classroom.

Please note that the library has no parking spaces. There are sometimes a couple of available parking slots for people with a blue badge directly outside the library but these are City of York Council owned, and not library owned, and cannot be relied on to be available. In addition, there is a time limit for parking in these spaces, which might not cover the full 5 hours of this workshop. There is, however, a drop off point directly in front of the main doors if someone is dropping you off by car.
Bike racks are available and a number of buses stop nearby.
