Tap Dance for Improvers
This tap dancing course will suit improvers. It will give you an understanding of tap technique, as well as broaden your understanding of dances and develop your sense of rhythm and movement. Our experienced tutor will adjust the content of the class to ensure improvers are able to learn and develop. A good tap dancer uses their whole body to convey the movement and sense of performance – it is not just about the feet!

The course will explore different musical styles and will develop your ability to combine steps into dance sequences. Like all forms of dance, tap is great fun and is hugely beneficial for your physical and mental well-being. It’s guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

The course offers an introduction to the technique and varied styles of tap dancing and will improve your co-ordination, musicality, spatial awareness, mental agility and stamina.

Before starting any exercise programme, it’s advisable to seek advice from your GP or a health professional if you have any health concerns, such as a health condition or an injury. As we are not qualified healthcare professionals, by participating in one of our courses you agree to take full responsibility for your own health, wellbeing and safety.

If you have any health problems or difficulties that you suffer from which you feel may impact on your ability to participate in this class please email york.learning@york.gov.uk with the class you will be attending (title/code/tutor) and we will forward this onto the relevant tutor who will, if they feel it appropriate, contact you before your first class to discuss this with you.

There is no class on 17 February 2025 (half-term holidays).

To find your classroom, please enter the school via community reception located at the bottom of the school drive by the main car park. Our door is to the right of the Better/Energise sports centre entrance (separate building) rather than using the school’s main reception back up the drive. Please arrive for your first class 10 minutes early to allow time to complete the health questionnaire to indicate to the tutor any contraindications to undertake exercise.
