Make Your Own Twinkly Christmas Tree
In this exciting new two day workshop, we guide you through experiments to discover how electronics, software and microcontrollers work together to enable you to build amazing gadgets and solutions to every day problems. You’ll learn how to programme in Python (a coding language), learn about electronic circuitry, and get to grips with simple microboards allowing you to set off things like lights. The final project in this workshop pulls together all you have learned and lets you develop your own festive digital decoration in the form of a Christmas tree that will light up and twinkle!

This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in learning about the basics of coding, using microcontrollers, a project combining practical and transferrable skills or just simply having a lovely day creating a Christmas decoration!
You do not have to have had previous experience with coding, using any of the components etc. All materials are ‘plug and play’ and using hand tools – there is no soldering or manufacturing process and you do not need any level of knowledge of any of the processes.

By attending this two day workshop you will start to develop the following skills which could transfer to other courses or further learning - simple coding, simple working with electronics, and basic microcontroller use. You will also develop your skills in listening, innovation, following instructions, practical work and creativity.
On successful completion of this workshop you could choose to progress to other courses with York Learning or another provider focussing on coding, or other practical hands on creativity. You could also continue your skills development in electronics/microcontrollers with private providers or potentially longer term progress to an apprenticeship/paid employment in sectors where this skill is required.
