Introduction to Oil Painting - A Simple Landscape
This is an exciting introductory one-day workshop where you’ll work with a professional artist to develop your understanding and confidence using oil painting.

The day will begin with an introduction to oil paints and the studio equipment you need. We’ll cover all the fundamentals of cleaning up, storage and setting out your work space. We will then move on to some experimental exercises in mark-making and colour mixing.

After lunch we will work on some landscape-inspired studies - using a range of photographic and artist resources. You will be encouraged to explore your own style and work towards different outcomes.

Throughout the day you’ll be supported on areas such as composition, gestural mark-making, layering, impasto and underpainting. You’ll also learn lots of useful professional tips and tricks from Liz who has years of experience in the medium.

You’ll leave the workshop with a solid understanding of oils, how they work and what you can do with them, so that you can continue to develop your own work at home.

Please note: we will be using traditional oil paints and low-odour solvents in the workshop.

Also, your work will still be wet when you take it home, so please bring a board to attach it to, or box/bag etc. so you can carry work safely.

This is an introductory level course for oils and it is suitable for absolute beginners in the medium. It is also suitable for artists who are already painting in water-based media, but are wanting to expand their practice to incorporate oil paints.

Please bring £5.00 to cover the cost of materials. This is paid to your tutor on the day of the workshop.

Please bring/wear painting clothes or an apron. Please also bring 2 x glass jars and an old rag.

If you have any queries about materials please email your tutor directly at studio@lizfosterart.co.uk

Please bring your own packed lunch, drinks and snacks. You may also wish to bring along your own tea or coffee as these are not currently available at this venue.
