Sashiko & Boro workshop - Japanese stitch traditions
*ENROLMENTS FOR THIS COURSE ARE NOW CLOSED*

This workshop will introduce you to the Japanese stitch traditions of Sashiko and Boro.

You will make two small samplers and then develop a slightly bigger piece to be made into a decorative container or phone/glasses case.

Originally this type of textile work was similar to patchwork in that it was made from layers of well-worn household fabrics, hand stitched together using distinctive patterns created with running stitch. Traditionally they were fabrics in different shades of blue, stitched with white embroidery thread.

This workshop is suitable for both for those who have very little stitching experience, as well as those who have more. The main stitch is running stitch and there will be a lot of support and encouragement throughout.

All materials and equipment will be supplied but if you have some fabric that you would like to use, feel free to bring it.

If you are left handed and have your own scissors, please bring them.

There will be no additional charges on the day.

You will need to bring a packed lunch and any hot/cold drinks you might need, as lunch and refreshments are not provided by the venue.

Initial skills gained from this course could lead to a further course in this craft, and potentially long term to additional income as a self-employed creator.
