Creative Portraiture
Learn all you need to know about portraiture alongside professional photographer, Carys. This course is perfect for people who want to develop the basics of photography with the support of Carys and the other members of the group. You’ll practise photographing each other and each week will develop a new aspect of your skillset.

You will learn about composition, lighting, basic technical skills and confident directing - with the chance to have peer-led reviews of your work.

Across the 5-week period you will have a combination of mini workshops, practical photography and reviews of your work. The goal of this course is to complete the course feeling confident to think creatively and capture wonderful portraits - with skills you can take home with you for self-assurance with your future projects.

By the end of the course, people will take away a range of portraits, in various lighting, taken from different angles and using various props. Learners will have developed a basic understanding of portraiture and experience of directing people with confidence.

You will need to provide your own camera, batteries, memory cards - and bring them to each class. There will be no additional costs.

It is preferable to bring the aforementioned equipment if possible. However, the majority of what is learnt is about application of techniques - so if a camera is not available to you, then you are able to bring your phone camera instead.

Materials will be provided for things like backdrops, accessories - but as the course progresses you will be more than welcome to bring in anything you may like to incorporate into your photos. These include fabrics, foliage/flowers, props, etc., but this is in no way compulsory!
