Initial Assessment for Maths Courses
This is an Initial Assessment for a Maths course. You will have either a face to face or online meeting (via Zoom) with a specialist tutor, which will take approximately 30 minutes. If you choose an online Zoom meeting, you must complete an online assessment task in advance. During the meeting, the tutor will chat to you about how you use maths skills in your daily life and why you want to improve them, your needs and any anxieties you may have. They will also discuss your class options and confirm your next steps. York Learning offers GCSE and Functional Skills at all levels, from Entry Level courses to brush up on the basics, to Level 1 and 2. Whichever course you follow, York Learning offers personalised support so that you can achieve your goals.

Functional Skills classes are two hours a week in term time. GCSE classes are 2.5 hours a week. York Learning runs a variety of sessions that will fit around your day-to-day life. We have daytime and evening sessions, both face to face and online via Zoom. Whichever path is right for you, all our courses are delivered in supportive settings and our tutors are experts in meeting individual needs, including support for your exams. Functional Skills exams take place throughout the year and the maths exam consists of a calculator paper and a non-calculator paper. The GCSE exam is taken in May/June and has three papers (one non-calculator and two calculator papers). We also offer a November resit.
