Patchwork and Quilting - Beginners & Beginners Plus
Through hands-on teaching and demonstrations, you will be guided through a variety of patchwork and quilting techniques. You will learn how to cut patchwork pieces using a rotary cutter, a self-healing cutting mat and patchwork rulers, as well as sewing precise seams on a sewing machine – all essential skills for producing patchwork pieces you will be proud of.

Over the duration of the course, you will be introduced to some different patchwork techniques to use in projects such as cushions, table mats, bags and quilt tops - the choice is yours!

Learners are encouraged to develop their own ideas and projects as the course progresses.

This course is ideal for beginners as well as those with some existing knowledge. An ideal follow-on course for those who attended in the autumn term, it provides the opportunity to further develop skills by trying another type of patchwork and quilting. There are so many different and exciting ways of creating something which is beautiful and practical, and more importantly, something YOU have made.

This course provides skills for self-improvement, which could also lead onto either further sewing courses or towards future career goals in creative textiles related subjects.

On the first night, please bring along a notebook and pen(s). The equipment you will need for the rest of the course will be discussed during the first session, when we will also talk about the fabric requirements.

The tutor will use scrap fabric from her collection to demonstrate, and this will also allow for discussion about colour and fabric choices. We have a sustainability ethos and the using up of scrap fabric is very much encouraged.

During the course you will be using a rotary cutter, self-healing cutting boards and patchwork rulers to help you make patchwork pieces that you will be proud of. The approximate amount for these items if bought new is around £20.00. Please wait until after the first session to buy these so that you can discuss this with the tutor first.
