Drawing – Portraiture, Anatomy & Still life
It can be intimidating to draw certain parts of the body because they are detailed and complex, yet familiar. In the first three sessions, we will be concentrating on the parts of the figure that often intimidate artists the most - heads, hands and feet.

Working from a combination of life models and replicas of the human head, hands and feet, we’ll learn and practise traditional drawing techniques in order to understand the proportions of the head and gain the often illusive “likeness”.

Hands can be as expressive as the face, feet not so much, but both are complex. If we practise observing and understand the anatomy, drawing them becomes easier. We will learn how to simplify the structure, reducing forms to a few geometric solid elements before progressing onto more expressive outcomes.

In the final two sessions we will work from a large-scale still life. This is a great way to build essential drawing skills such as hand-eye coordination, and creating shadow and perspective. As you sketch the fabrics in front of you, you'll see how they sit on the human form, focusing on the finer details… It’s a wonderful way to bring more mindfulness into your life.

We will be drawing with a variety of dry media including pencil, charcoal and pastels.

You’ll leave these fun and informative classes with drawings that you’ll (hopefully) be delighted with!
