Millinery - Large Summer Occasion Hat - Sinamay
This 5-week course will give students a continued insight into the wonderful and exciting world of millinery. The course is perfect for intermediates or for those students wishing to continue on from the felt occasion, fascinator or buckram hat courses.

Students will be taught the skills to block and finish a large occasion hat made to their own design. They will leave at the end of the course with a large occasion hat suited to summer weddings, garden parties or a day at the races.

In addition to learning how to block a hat using traditional methods, students will also receive insight into the different styles and types of trimmings.

Your tutor will always be on hand to teach by a variety of methods including tutor presentation, varied demonstrations and one-to-one personalised guidance.

Please bring along a notebook, pen/pencil and basic sewing kit (including fabric scissors/tape measure/pins, etc.).

Please also bring an apron for week 1. It is advisable to wear a long-sleeved top during these weeks for the blocking process.

*Important: All students will be required to purchase their own sinamay material.*

The tutor will guide all learners on suitable material and advise learners about millinery suppliers in the first lesson and throughout the course. Learners will be expected to bring their selected material to the second lesson.

The average cost of sinamay is £12.00 per metre. Depending on the chosen size of hat block, learners may be required to purchase 3 or 4 metres, as well as additional items to trim their hats, such as millinery feathers and mounts.
