Introduction to Computer Game Design (Skills Bootcamp)
This course is for people who wish to gain an understanding of the Game Design and Development process. You will gain a solid understanding of the core game design concepts, experience working in C# / C++, and experience using Unity / Unreal Game Engine. Your learning journey will include: Game Research, Game Remix, Game Ideas, including your own original game idea, developing your own unique game idea, exploring Design and Interaction and the importance of testing. The course will be delivered twice weekly online (Mondays and Thursdays) with a face to face tutorial once a month (Wednesdays) with your tutor. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with others on your project within these face to face sessions. The course culminates with a full day excursion to Teesside University School of Computing, where you will be given the opportunity to explore the facilities and courses available.

This course is ideal for anyone looking to gain experience and knowledge in the Game Design and Development area. No previous Game Design or Development experience is required. This course can lead with further study/experience to a role within the computer game design industry or working in coding

You will need access to a computer that meets the minimum specification requirements to run Unity / Unreal Game Engines. These specifications are: Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit version 1909 revision .1350 or higher, or versions 2004 and 20H2 revision .789 or higher. Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD, 2.5 GHz or faster. Memory: 8 GB RAM. Graphics Card: DirectX 11 or 12 compatible graphics card. It would be beneficial to have access to a webcam and microphone to get the most from your online sessions.

At the end of the course you will have gained the skills and knowledge to develop games independently. You will be able to use your skills and experience to develop yourself further and move in to more specialised areas. Skills Bootcamps are funded by the Department for Education and are an integral part of the Government’s Skills for Life strategy. The York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership supports the roll out of Skills Bootcamps across the entire region it serves
