Making Arts & Crafts - Inclusive Art Group
Our Making Arts and Crafts course encourages people to "have a go" at a wide variety of art and craft techniques within a safe and supportive environment. There will be time to practise, explore and develop new skills, taught to you by our tutors, Helen and Deborah.

Sessions will include felt making and embroidery along with art collage, printmaking and sketch book ideas.

Support will be given to help students experiment with materials and to develop their own ideas, if that is what they would prefer. There will be plenty of materials and fabrics to practise with. However, learners may also bring things they have at home to personalize their work.

This course will enable you to develop personal creative and craft skills and to gain experience in producing finished craft pieces. It will also provide you with the time and space to experiment with art ideas.

This course is for complete beginners or for those with some experience, who would like to try different arts and craft techniques and learn new skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.

The course is fully inclusive: learners will be able to work slowly, at their own pace, through simple art and craft outcomes. People with symptoms of dementia are welcome, as is anyone who would like to attend with a carer.

This course allows learners to develop skills for self-improvement and could lead to further study in a similar group or self-study so that you can continue to develop your skills.

All materials will be provided and there will be lots of scope to experiment with a wide range of creative media and techniques. If learners wish to bring materials from home to personalise their work, they are welcome to do so.

There are no classes on 1 November 2023 (half-term holidays) and 15 November 2023 (library closure).

This course takes place in the Garden Room at the central library in York. It is a ground floor classroom. Please note that the library has no parking available. There are sometimes a couple of available parking slots for people with a blue badge directly outside the library but these are City of York Council owned, and not library owned, and cannot be relied on to be available. There are bike racks and a number of buses that stop nearby.
