Painting & Drawing - Beginners
This is an introductory level class with lots of tutor guidance, so suitable for learners will little or no previous experience. We take a broad look at a range of different techniques, materials and methods in drawing and painting, focusing on the fundamentals of line, tone, mark-making and colour. We also look at individual materials to gain confidence.

The course is made up of a range of practical tasks and tutor-led demonstrations with opportunities for experimentation as you develop in confidence. The course will give you a foundation in drawing and painting using water-based and dry media allowing you to move on to other classes, or to just give you the confidence to enjoy your painting and drawing at home.

We will use a range of materials including pen, pencil, charcoal, pastel, acrylic and watercolour. We will also look at a range of artists' work and learn about their techniques and styles.

This course is suitable for all beginners and those still wanting to focus on the basics of painting and drawing. You may not have studied art since school, need a refresher, or you may lack confidence: this is a structured and tutor-led course so you will be guided throughout.

This course provides skills for self-improvement, which could lead to further study/or a pathways towards self-employment as a working artist.

You will need to provide your own materials for the course and your tutor will go through all materials in detail in the first few lessons.

For lesson one please bring an A4 sketchbook (white cartridge paper) and pencils. At a glance, during the course we will be using acrylic paint, watercolour, graphite, charcoal and pastel.

Your tutor will give you full guidance on what materials you will need for each session.
