Ukrainian - Culture & Conversation
Devised in the first instance for the host families of Ukrainian refugees, this course is suitable for anyone who would like to pick up the basics of the Ukrainian language and gain an insight into the culture, traditions and history of this fascinating country.

By the end of the course you will be able to:-

• Introduce yourself and use basic greetings
• Give some personal information about yourself (where you live, your job, what you like to do, your favourite food)
• Recognize and learn the Ukrainian Cyrillic alphabet and also write some basic words.

By the end of the course you will have gained an understanding of:

• Ukraine’s most important celebrations and traditions
• Fascinating episodes in Ukrainian history
• The character of the Ukrainian people

If you would like to gain some basic communication skills in the Ukrainian language and find out about Ukrainian culture, traditions, food and history – then welcome to our course!

If you would like to make any notes during the sessions, then a notebook (or just a plain paper) and a pen/pencil would be useful. Additionally, we are planning to do some short writing activities.

The session on the 27 August 2022 runs from 9.30am to 11:00am to accommodate Ukrainian Independence celebrations.

This course takes place at the central library in York. Please note that the library has no parking available. There are sometimes a couple of available parking slots for people with a blue badge directly outside the library but these are City of York Council owned, and not library owned, and cannot be relied on to be available. There are bike racks and a number of buses that stop nearby.
