French Beginners (New Sept 2022)
*Due to the newly planned Bank Holiday on Monday 19th September to mark the funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this course will now start and end a week later than originally planned. The course will now start on Monday 26th September and finish on Monday 5th December.

This highly supportive course will cover topics, vocabulary and grammar that will develop learners’ confidence and provide a foundation to support communication in a range of everyday situations, including:

• Introductions and greetings
• Buying food and drink
• Asking for and understanding directions
• Making travel and accommodation arrangements
• Expressing likes and dislikes
• Talking about hobbies and leisure activities

The course will provide students with strategies for language learning, introduce learners to a range of materials to support their learning, and build on learners’ interest in French-speaking countries and cultures.

This course is designed for learners who have no previous experience of learning French. Prosp User 4
You will need a notebook, an A4 ring binder and pens (approximately £5.00). The course will be supported by a course book, further details to be given at the first session (anticipated cost approximately £20.00). In addition, the tutor will provide a range of materials to support activities in the class.
The book will be BBC Talk French 1. It is available online or sometimes at Waterstones in York. There is also a box set containing BBC Talk French 1 and 2 plus a Grammar book, if students prefer to buy that. Please do not buy the book until after the first session.
