Pilates - Packed Lunch!
Sitting for long periods, maybe at a desk, or not as mobile as you would like to be? Then this class is for you!

This Pilates course has fantastic benefits for those working from home or in a place of work at a desk for long periods of time. This course is also ideal for those perhaps who may be struggling with mobility in general and just need to loosen up and get the body straightened out and back on track.

There is no need to have previous knowledge of Pilates as all exercises are fully explained, demonstrated and can be adapted to suit the individual needs and capabilities of all participants.

With seated, standing and floor routines, this class is designed to build on core strength, improve posture and balance and reawaken your mobility and flexibility through targeted stretching and exercises to loosen and strengthen the neck and spine.

Through practising the six principles of Pilates; concentration, control, center, flow, precision, and breathing, you will soon start to gain a greater level body awareness to help reduce pain and stiffness with a body that works to the best of its own ability.

The breathing techniques also increase blood flow and oxygen circulation throughout the body which gives healthier support and maintenance to your vital organs. Other benefits include a boosted immune system and greater joint mobility, improved bone density. It can also help to reduce stress and encourage a more focused mind, essential for those who may struggle to relax or take a break!

Perfect for anybody who sits for prolonged periods but also ideal for those perhaps who may be struggling with mobility in general and just need to loosen up and get the body straightened out and back on track. Research shows that sitting for long periods or being immobile can have a negative effect on health and is often uncomfortable. This can contribute to tightness in the hips and legs, in addition to neck, shoulder and back pain in the upper body.

If you recognise that this is YOU, then this course could be just what you need.

This is an online course. It will be delivered via Zoom, but if you are a City of York Council employee working at West Offices on a Monday then you can take part in a dedicated room on the premises or from home or from anywhere you like!

Wear loose clothing suitable for exercise, bring a towel and a water bottle. All long hair must be tied back and loose jewellery removed. No footwear is required.

This is an online course that will be delivered via Zoom, so please ensure that you can access this on the device you are using.

You will receive your Zoom login details by email around 24 hours before the course is due to start, or at the earliest opportunity if you enrol after this point. Please keep your Zoom code safe as you will need the same code for each class. Please join Zoom five minutes before your session is due to start and remain in the “waiting room”. Your tutor will then admit you to the class once your session is ready to begin. If you require help to download or use Zoom, please email ictskills@york.gov.uk at least a week before your course starts and we will endeavour to provide assistance.

Before starting any exercise programme, it’s advisable to seek advice from your GP or a health professional if you have any health concerns, such as a health condition or an injury. As we are not qualified healthcare professionals, by participating in one of our courses you agree to take full responsibility for your own health, wellbeing and safety.
