German Year 5 - term 3
We use the course book Schritte Plus Neu 5 (Huber Verlag) ISBN 978-3-19-301085-8.

This course is a continuation from the spring term. We started with Unit 1 and studied the topics "everyday life" and "entertainment". In terms of grammar, we studied the Simple Past, Pluperfect, expressing different opinions using conjunctions and Relative Clauses.

In the spring and summer terms (terms 2 and 3), we will study the topics of health, language and culture and become more confident when using the Passive with Modal Verbs, the Genitive, the Subjunctive and zu + Infinitive.

We learn by listening to and repeating new words and phrases, reading texts, doing a variety of paired work activities, and practising new language in role play situations.

This term builds on prior knowledge enabling greater fluency of the topics. All four skills continue to be developed.

Learning aims and outcomes include:

- To develop further the languages skills at B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) which is equivalent to AS level
- 7 learning units in total but we start with Unit 3 (Units 1-2 covered in the Autumn Term)
- Grammar sections and word glossary
- Lively and contemporary themes
- Comprehensive coverage of key grammar and vocabulary, for communicating in a range of common conversational settings
- Range of activities based on authentic materials, to see everyday German in context
- CD and integrated workbook, which contains listening, speaking, reading and writing activities
