Photography: Extraordinary Everyday Images on Location
Improve your photography skills and learn to see things from different perspectives.

In this 7-week course, you can use any kind of camera. From your mobile phone to a pro SLR, all are welcome! Each session, you will be set a different photo challenge, for example, photographing food, finding frames within frames, reshooting an album cover for your favourite music. The tutor will share some useful tips for the challenges and we’ll look at relevant examples from different artists to inspire you.

During the sessions we’ll review each other’s photos as a group and give and receive feedback.

This course is mainly online, but sessions no. 2 and no. 4 on the 8 February and 1 March will be in the centre of York where we can meet face-to-face and do some night photography (subject to COVID-19 restrictions). For these sessions, please meet in the Garden Room at York Explore Central Library on Museum Street in the centre of York at 7pm.

This course is a great opportunity to develop your photography skills, seed your creativity and share your work while
having fun.

You’ll need one or more cameras of any kind, whether it's a mobile phone or a digital camera. If using a camera, you will need to be able to transfer the photos to your computer.

Please bring some hand sanitiser and, although not obligatory, a face covering is encouraged for the indoor part of the face-to-face sessions.

No session on 22 February 2022 (half-term holidays).

This is an hybrid course that will be delivered mainly online via Zoom, so please ensure that you can access this on the device you are using. You will receive details and joining instructions on how to access the course 24 hours before the course starts via email. If you enrol late, you will receive your joining instructions on the day that the course starts.

You will need to join Zoom five minutes before your session is due to start and remain in the “waiting room”. Your tutor will then admit you to the class once your session is ready to begin.

If you require help to download or use Zoom, please email ictskills@york.gov.uk at least a week before your course starts and we will endeavour to provide assistance.

The two face-to-face classes will be held on Tuesday 8 February and again on Tuesday 1 March. For both of these sessions we ask that you meet at 7pm in the Garden Room (ground floor) of York Explore Library, Museum Street, York, YO1 7DS. Please note that there is no parking at the library except for 3 disabled parking bays. These can be used by anyone with a blue badge and they are City of York Council owned rather than library owned. If you require parking, there are a few carparks nearby, including Gillygate and Marygate. Several buses stop near to the library and there are bike racks outside the library.

If COVID-19 restrictions change or if there is bad weather, the face-to-face sessions will revert to online, but we will let you know if this is the case.
