Expressive and Abstract Landscapes (Adult Learning in York Week)
We hope you’ll enjoy this Adult Learning in York Week taster session.

Even if you’re a beginner, do you ever feel that your painting is a bit stuck, or that you want to ‘loosen up’? This one-day workshop will help you break down your process and develop the confidence to work in a freer, more expressive way.

We’ll start the day by exploring mark-making using a range of both traditional and hand-made tools. From this, we will develop a series of drawings and painted sketches based on landscapes, using a range of materials and collage. I’ll show you how to build exciting and engaging compositions using line, form and texture as well as learning to embrace accidental marks and colour.

By the end of the day, you’ll have lots of ideas to take forward in your work (whether you normally work in oils, acrylic or watercolour) and feel more confident in developing abstract and expressive images.

*Please read the information in the section: 'What do I need to bring and are there any additional costs?'*

This workshop is aimed at painters with some experience and those wanting to develop their work, whatever stage they are at. However, beginners are welcome - the main criteria for getting the most from this day is a willingness to have a go, try new techniques and enjoy experimenting. Prosp User 4
The nature of this workshop means that you will be encouraged to work in a range of media.

You will need acrylic and/or watercolour paints and a range of brushes, but please also bring along a selection of other materials you may already have, such as:- inks, oil/soft pastels, charcoal, coloured pencils.

Please bring plenty of appropriate paper (A3/A2) as you will be working on a number of studies. You can also paint on recycled cardboard for instance. Bringing other equipment such as easels or canvases is entirely optional.
