A Touch of Northern Soul - The Book Club
No, nothing to do with the musical genre, but a monthly book club featuring great writing set against a northern backdrop, work that is lively, engaging and provocative, books that pack a punch and live on in the mind. The key concerns and qualities of the chosen texts will be highlighted and discussed - not least as a possible prompt to the participants’ own creative writing.

The first book we’ll be looking at this autumn, on the 9th of October, is Benjamin Myers’s widely praised The Offing (2019), a novel set in and around Robin Hood’s Bay. This is how the author Rob Cowen characterised it: ‘Both beautiful and beautifully told … The Offing reaffirms the values and riches of human connection, freedom and the joy of living on your own terms.’ So why not get hold of a copy, read it and join the discussion!

This is a monthly book club which will meet on the 9th October, the 13th November and the 11th December 2021.
