Yoga for Health and Wellbeing
Influenced by a background in Yoga, hands-on energy (Shiatsu) therapy and work to develop positive mental health, this Yoga course is about making healthy connections and is suitable for beginners or those with hatha yoga experience.

Connection to the breath; connection to body energy & sensation, connection to inner feeling & movement. In the process, building and strengthening a positive relationship to self and others and developing well-being. Through breathing practises, movement and posture and guided relaxation we’ll lead the body into a restorative state, releasing tension, relaxing body and mind, coming home to being.

This would be a suitable class either for anyone with a busy life wanting to find space and ‘me’ time, or for those wanting to re-tune, and/or to soften hard edges, whether that be joint or body stiffness, aches & pains, or inner emotional resistance, anyone feeling the effects of social isolation and wanting a safe, supportive practise to reconnect or unwind. I actively encourage diversity, and people of all different backgrounds and experience. All levels of hatha yoga are welcome, including those completely new to the practise.

Where possible I encourage use of Yoga equipment (or home substitutes); blocks & bricks, cushions, knee pad, canvas belt, eye cover. The hall has chairs available, and these too, may be used. The equipment provides additional support, helps the body to open up (body’s won’t be forced!) and compliments the balance of stillness, reflection and movement in the sessions, that help to develop body-mind awareness and release. They are not essential though, so please come along and give it a go regardless. I will offer modifications and adaptions where possible.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement of the arms legs and neck. You’ll need a Yoga mat (£5-10 local supermarket). Please also wear yoga socks with sticky grips if you are unable to practise in bare feet. A Yoga block and belt would be good additions to the practise, but you could ad-lib with a chunky book or cushion to sit on, and a scarf or old canvas belt. A water bottle may provide welcome refreshment.

Covid-19 health and safety guidelines for the venue will apply. We ask that you please bring your own hand sanitiser and sanitiser wipes to each session for your own personal space.
