Dressmaking
Have you ever missed out on a beautiful dress at a bargain price because they didn’t have your size? No problem! With this 10-week course you will acquire all of the skills you need to do your own fashion DIY! From understanding the materials to using the equipment, from practical stitches to decorative stitches, there is something for everyone. You will also learn how to take correct body measurements, so that you’re never left short.

The informal sessions allow learners to be inspired by other class members and there will be weekly demonstrations on a variety of techniques/projects by the tutor. During the 10-week course, learners will perhaps only complete one garment, depending on how much independent study takes place outside class.

Subject to numbers, classes will continue after Christmas to complete other projects and extend people's knowledge and understanding of dressmaking.

Through 1:1 personalised demonstrations and feedback, along with group work and presentations, you will gain the knowledge and skills you need for dressmaking.

Additional Benefits of the course: We regularly visit fabric shops/suppliers and hold a charity Dressmaking Showcase to display the wonderful work of the learners.

The course is delivered by a tutor who is also a practitioner in the subject and is on hand to teach by a variety of methods including tutor presentation, varied demonstrations and one-to-one personalised guidance. Sewing machines, overlockers, a cover stitch machine, a steam generated iron and lots of sewing equipment is available at the venue for learners to use. You are also welcome to bring along your own sewing machine.

The course will be fully supported by ‘Padlet’ (best described as an online noticeboard) where weekly demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas between sessions and keep a record of your progress.
