German Beginners
Term 1 (autumn 2021) course: Learn to introduce yourself and family or friends, ask others for their name, order something to eat and drink in a café or restaurant and how to count. You will learn by listening to and repeating new words and phrases, reading simple texts, doing a variety of exercises, and practising new language in role play situations.

Term 2 (spring term 2022) course: Learn to ask for and understand basic directions, how to find your way around town, understand opening times and timetables, and shop for food and other things.

Term 3 (summer term 2022) course: Learn to book a hotel room and ask about public transport, understand arrival and departure times, buy tickets, and understand menus.

This course is for beginners and is taught online. You will need a computer, laptop or tablet and an internet connection. The course is for anyone interested in learning German for holiday, work, or leisure. No previous experience is necessary. However, the terms run consecutively, so if you wish to join in the second or third term, a little previous knowledge would be an advantage. If you are unsure if the course will be suitable for you, please get in touch with the York Learning team and we will put you in contact with the tutor. Prosp User 4
It is advisable that you have paper and pen (an exercise or notebook would be ideal) beside your computer to make notes or to download a copy of the weekly PowerPoint presentations, so that you can add your own comments to the lecture notes. You could also make notes in a Word document.

You will need to purchase a copy of the book ‘Talk German 1 (Book/CD Pack): The ideal German course for absolute beginners (£10.99)’ – ISBN 10: 1406678988; ISBN 13: 978-1406678987.

Important: Please do not purchase the book until after the first session, or until it is confirmed that the course is definitely going ahead.

This is an online course that will be delivered via Zoom, so please ensure that you can access this on the device you are using.

You will receive the Zoom code and password by email 24 hours before your course is due to start. (Please check your junk email if you haven't received this email by the day of your course.) The Zoom code login and password you receive will be the same for every class this term.

You will need to join Zoom five minutes before your session is due to start and remain in the “waiting room”. Your tutor will then admit you to the class once your session is ready to begin.
