Textile Collage & Embroidery – Garden Bird (inc Materials/p&p)
This course has now closed for bookings to allow time for the material packs to be delivered.

Hand stitch a favourite garden bird using a mixture of fabrics and threads. Before the start of this workshop you will be given a chance to choose a bird from the following: robin, blackbird, sparrow, pigeon, wren and tit. Using a supplied template to help you get started, you will cut fabrics of appropriate colour and texture into small pieces and sew them into your bird outline. You will use expressive stitches, long and short, close and spaced to convey the character of the bird. French knots could also be included. Your completed image could be bordered with a pattern if time allows.

This workshop is open to all but it would be an advantage to have some experience of simple hand stitching. Once the initial explanation is over, you are free to work at your own pace and take breaks when you want. You can join in with as much or as little of the conversation as you want. Prosp User 4
You will receive a pack of materials appropriate to your chosen bird before the workshop. It will contain background fabric, a bird template, a selection of various fabrics and some embroidery thread. You will also need on the day, a pencil, some scissors, pins, needles and some ordinary sewing thread in brown or grey. You may also need some extra embroidery thread in case not enough is supplied. A materials kit will be posted out to you in the week before the course. This (including the postage) is included in the cost of the course. Enrolments for the course end 8 days before the workshop starts to give us time to get the kits posted out and delivered.

This is an online course that will be delivered via Zoom, so please ensure that you can access this on the device you are using.

You will receive your Zoom login details in an email that is sent out 24 hours before the course is due to start. (Please note, if you enrol less than 24 hours before a course starts, you will receive your zoom code as soon as you enrol.)

You will need to join Zoom five minutes before your session is due to start and remain in the “waiting room”. Your tutor will then admit you to the class once your session is ready to begin.

If you require help to download or use Zoom, please email ictskills@york.gov.uk at least a week before your course starts and we will endeavour to provide assistance.

Please ensure that you read and understand the health and safety guidelines on any new creative product you intend to use during the course, before the first class.
