Dressmaking – Term 2 Sewing with Stretch Fabrics
Following on from the success of term 1, we are offering another course for those new to dressmaking or more experienced learners who would like to know more about sewing with stretch fabrics.
During this 5-week course you will continue to improve your skills in sewing stretch fabrics using your sewing machine and cover some more complex techniques.
Sessions will include a video detailing the instructions on the specified technique, followed by a comprehensive step-by-step PowerPoint presentation for you to work along with at home with tutor support at every stage.
Week 1 – Sewing waistbands and trousers in stretch fabric
Week 2 – Collars and using stretch interfacing
Week 3 – Customising necklines
Week 4 – Sleeves and attaching cuffs
Week 5 – Pockets

Example of the session structure:
7pm - Introduction and general chat
7.05pm - All learners will be asked to mute microphones, advised to turn off cameras and asked to follow the link to watch the ‘demo of the week’ which will be displayed in the ‘chat’ function of zoom.
7.20pm - Learners return to Zoom for a discussion about the video where questions/queries are answered – learners will have microphones muted, and questions asked via the ‘hand up’ system. We will also be using the ‘chat’ function in Zoom.
7.25pm - Interactive learner ‘copy and repeat’ of the demo, with aid of PowerPoint presentation step-by-step guide and tutor guidance throughout. Learners will be expected to complete any tasks in their own time, ready for the next session.
8.25pm - Evaluate session and discuss requirements for the following week

Please note that demonstrations are recorded in tutors’ own homes. All videos and PowerPoints will be available to the learners following the session and available to use as a resource in their future projects.

You will need to provide your own fabrics & pattern paper to complete the tasks – detailed information of the requirements will be sent once we know the class has enough learners enrolled to make it viable. Prosp User 5
The course will be fully supported by "Padlet" (best described as an online noticeboard) where weekly demonstrations and other useful material will be uploaded by the tutor. This platform can also be used to keep in touch with likeminded learners to share ideas between sessions and keep a record of your progress. https://padlet.com/kateunsworth/dressmakingclasses
